usability tips

  • Make text short and clear. Break it up with bullet points. It's hard for people to read a lot of text on a computer screen. Draw their eye to the most important elements.

  • Pay attention to navigation. This means giving users a number of ways to move around the site. Use navigation in standard, tried and tested ways - underlined links; text navigation at the bottom of each page; search box in the top right hand corner. It's not boring - it's courteous!

  • An accessible site is good for everyone. If it works for users with disabilities, it will work for everybody else, too. Use accessibility requirements to your advantage to make every visitor's experience more user-friendly.

  • Create your site's layout with your target audience in mind. Focus on their expectations, not your organisation's structure.

  • Be consistent. Make sure every page and section works in the same way so that you don't confuse your visitors.
